Why is it called the Dominican Rosary?
In 1221, when Mother Mary appeared to Saint Dominic, she directed him to spread devotion to her, through what we know today as The Rosary. Later in life, Saint Dominic instituted the Dominican Order.
How to Pray the Rosary
It would be good practice to go to confession or at least pray a heartfelt Act of Contrition before reciting the Rosary.
When reciting the rosary hold the Rosary itself in your hand(s) and move your fingers from bead to bead with each prayer. Follow up starting at the cross up beads and chain then around the circle in a counterclockwise direction. In the absence of an actual rosary to hold, you could use your fingers to count off the ten Hail Mary’s. Reciting the other prayers before or after the Hail Mary’s.
Make the Sign of the Cross. Holding the cross in your fingers recite the Apostles Creed.
On the first bead say the Our Father.
On each of the next three beads say a Hail Mary.
On the space between the last bead and the next bead say the Glory be to the Father and The Fatima Prayer.
On the next bead pray the Our Father, announce the First Mystery, read from scripture or reflect on the mystery.
For the remainder of the Rosary recite the Our Father on the large beads.
On each of the ten small beads, recite one Hail Mary.
On the space between the last bead and the next bead recite The Glory Be to the Father and The Fatima Prayer.
On the same space say the Our Father. announce the Second Mystery, read from scripture or reflect on the mystery.
On each of the ten small beads recite a Hail Mary.
On the space between the last bead and the next bead recite The Glory be to the Father and The Fatima Prayer.
On the next bead pray the Our Father then announce the Third Mystery read from scripture or reflect on the mystery.
Recite the remaining decades in the same manner repeating steps five through twelve for the remaining mysteries.
After the final Fatima Prayer say the Hail Holy Queen prayer.
Make the Sign of the Cross.
Prayers for the Dominican Rosary
In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit Amen.
Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, Our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended into hell, on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the Body, and life everlasting, Amen.
Our Father
Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name,
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on Earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
Glory be to the Father
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen.
Fatima Prayer, O My Jesus
O My Jesus, forgive us our sins,
save us from the fires of hell, and lead all souls to heaven,
especially those in most need of Thy mercy.
Hail Holy Queen
Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness, and our hope!
To you we cry, poor banished children of Eve;
to you we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, O most gracious advocate, your eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this, our exile, show unto us the blessed fruit of your womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary! Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God,
that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Let Us Pray
O God, whose only begotten Son, by His life, death, and resurrection,
has purchased for us the rewards of eternal life, grant we beseech You,
that meditating upon these mysteries of the most Holy Rosary of the Blessed Virgin Mary,
we may imitate what they contain and obtain what they promise.
Through the same Christ our Lord, Amen.
